Engineer turned fashion designer, Brian Antonevich, established his upcycled fashion company, Frayed Needle in 2015. While Frayed Needle’s one-of-a-kind fashion is hard to compare to anything in stores today, Brian’s brand is inspired by the rock stars of pop culture: The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Lenny Kravitz, Chris Cornell, Rob Zombie and Neil Young. He was also influenced by Melissa and Rick Caballo of Corello Rock Fashion, another big encourager of what motivated him to start his own brand. Brian produces styles that allow you to be confident in any vibe. This includes upcycled jeans, shorts, skirts, and tops. You can channel the bright lights and a stage throughout your everyday life, or you can enjoy a low-profile evening while not being the center of attention if desired.
The company began long before this though. Brian was drawn towards fashion over the years; from modifying and piecing together products to look effortless and cool. He wanted a creative outlet to express himself and help others feel confident as well. As a result, others began to take notice, encouraging him to explore and define his style even further. Fashion and design seem to run in the family as Brian’s son is a jewelry designer in New York City, while his daughter is a recent graduate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a degree in fashion design.
With a major background in engineering, Brian originally found himself working as a professional engineer full-time in Boston and took on fashion as a passion project after hours. However, when COVID hit, he came to the realization that fashion and design was something he was truly infatuated with. Therefore, he left his engineering job and began to put all his energy into creating distinctive and unique pieces to share with the world. Brian is already taking the music/rock apparel scene by storm and continues to WOW the fashion industry one frayed needle at a time.
